Main Spanish breeds

Prat Leonada

This is a Mediterranean type bird known worldwide. It was created by crossing Spanish chickens with another species, probably of Asian origin. Its origin is in the Prat del Llobregat area in Barcelona. The main characteristic of this breed is its striking coloration, with blue legs, reddish plumage, and bright red comb.

Azul Andaluza

A beautiful Andalusian chicken, a native breed from the Mediterranean area. Its most distinctive feature is the color of its plumage, a striking bluish-gray or slate color. Its face, wattles, and comb are a deep red, contrasting with its white earlobes. Its eggs are brown, and it has an elegant posture that catches attention.

Castellana

This Castellana chicken is an excellent layer of large white eggs. It was created from black Spanish chickens, typical of the south, center, and Levante regions. Its white earlobes and red comb stand out against its black plumage with metallic reflections. It is a vigorous breed known for its great egg production.

Pinta Asturiana

This is one of the best-known breeds. Its pattern was created around 1995, and it is a rustic chicken that is a good layer. It is also known for the quality of its meat. Its eggs are a toasted cream color and its shell is very soft to the touch. The weight of these eggs is usually around 65 grams.

Euskal

This is a large-type chicken from the Atlantic area. They are medium layers, and their eggs have a dark brown shell. Their origin comes from the breed known as the red Basque chickens, typical of the north and west of Spain. Their plumage is reddish, with yellow legs and red earlobes.

Sureña

This is a Mediterranean type chicken, a layer of white eggs. One of its main peculiarities is that it has a drooping comb that covers one of its eyes. Its weight ranges from 2.5 kg for females to 3.8 kg for males. It has an elongated body that tilts backward, with a tail at a 95º angle.
